Academic Studies

Academic Vision and Scientific Research In the field of Orthopedics and Traumatology, long-term surgical success and enhanced patient treatment comfort are directly related to a strong academic foundation and continuous scientific research. From the very first day of his medical education, Dr. Cengiz Çabukoğlu has placed surgical ethics and evidence-based scientific approaches at the core of his career, combining his clinical experience with laboratory-level experimental research. Throughout his more than a quarter-century of practice, he has not only been an active surgeon but has also authored pioneering studies that shape national and international medical literature.

Dr. Cengiz Çabukoğlu’s academic focus centers on pediatric orthopedics, surgical management of neuromuscular diseases (Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida), bone tumors (orthopedic oncology), Achilles tendon biomechanics, and advanced bone deformities. Each of these studies is designed to produce safer, anatomical solutions for complex cases encountered in the operating room.

Two Original Surgical Techniques Accepted in Medical Literature One of the highest pinnacles of Dr. Cengiz Çabukoğlu's academic career is the introduction of two original surgical techniques that have been accepted and published in world-renowned medical journals. Bearing his surname in global orthopedic literature, these techniques offer surgeons a new roadmap in complex cases that cannot be resolved with traditional methods or carry a high risk of complications. Naming these procedures the "Çabukoğlu Surgical Technique" was the final wish of his late father, Beşir Çabukoğlu, who always supported his devotion to science and education. These methods have been officially recognized by international authorities as modern, limb-salvaging, and reconstructive techniques—particularly for rare and challenging anomalies like Combined Tibial and Fibular Hemimelia (the congenital absence of both the tibia and fibula).

Prestigious Scientific Awards and Experimental Research The innovative and evidence-based nature of his academic work has repeatedly earned him top accolades at the Akif Şakir Şakar Scientific Awards, Turkey's most prestigious organization in orthopedics. Awarded second place in the experimental category for his groundbreaking study "Comparison of Functional Evaluation Methods in a Rat Sciatic Nerve Model", Dr. Çabukoğlu consistently secured top awards with biomechanical research on suture strength in Achilles tendon repairs and the anti-collapse effects of bone cement in orthopedic oncology. These experimental studies provided the foundation for today’s patients to stand up and achieve mobilization much faster and more safely after surgery.

Books, International Publications, and Global Knowledge Transfer Dr. Cengiz Çabukoğlu believes that producing knowledge goes hand-in-hand with sharing and disseminating it as part of academic responsibility. In line with this, he spearheaded the Turkish translation of internationally reference guidebooks, such as the "Graf Method (Manual of Hip Ultrasound)"—considered the gold standard for diagnosing developmental dysplasia of the hip—and the "Ponseti Method", the cornerstone of clubfoot treatment. Additionally, he authored book chapters in primary reference textbooks on Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida.

Having served as a faculty member at prestigious academic institutions like Marmara University and Okan University, Dr. Cengiz Çabukoğlu embraces the mentor vision inherited from Prof. Dr. Selim Yalçın and Prof. Dr. Nadire Berker: "If the apprentice does not surpass the master, the craft dies." With this academic responsibility, he continues to pass on this same scientific ethics and vision to all young colleagues he trains—especially Dr. Shikali Isgandarli, with whom he currently works in his clinical practice—and offers healing to international patients from around the globe in the light of modern science.
